Preconceived Actions

We all have some form of bias within us. We are inclined or prejudicial against one person, a group having their own ideology, someone’s ethnic background, race, religion, non-believers and even country of origin.

Why we do so? That’s an easy answer. Many researches show that a child learns whilst being in the womb. Traditionally, elders will say ask us to be kind and treat a child bearing mother with care as the child she carries sense her happiness also her sadness. The environment surrounding the mother will influence the unborn child in many ways too.

When you are born, both your mother and father start’s the race for you to call ‘mama’ or ‘dada’ and gets exhilarated when one wins over the other. Within a few months, instead of you taking time to crawl properly and then attempt to stand on your own, they will rush to hold your hands and make you walk. In the worst case, put you on baby walker (note: baby walkers have been banned in Canada since 2004). They become very excited to say my baby stood up and walked within six months (an average child may begin to walk well over seven months and some have delays even up to eighteen months).

From childhood, adolescent, adulthood and later parts of our life, we are induced with sight, preconceived actions of people before us. If your parent had a bad experience with one person of a certain ethnic, it is highly possible they told you that people of certain ethnic are bad and not to play with them in school. Your sibling tells you not to befriend the neighborhood popular child so that you are not going to behave rudely or get misdirected. In school, most of the teachers have different sets of rules and can impose them to the classroom. A talkative student is branded a nuisance, a quiet child is said to be exemplary.

In many rare occasions, you will come across parents, siblings, teachers, friends, neighbors and strangers who gives you beautiful lessons to life and learning. You will see the world as it is; not ugly, polluted and coming to an end tomorrow, but as a beautiful place where butterflies accentuate flowers, animals roam in their natural places, birds fly freely and chirping away, bluish green oceans reflecting the color of the sky and the vast universe that is ever expanding.

So far, did you catch my drift? No, I am not talking about ‘Fast and Furious-Tokyo Drift’, the movie.
