Both words sound nearly alike, right? Determination takes you to the path of achieving your successes, and detriment causes uncanny harm.
You may have met someone who is a very determined person. This gives you an opportunity to compare yourself with this person, if you have similar ability. The approach to be a well determined person or partially determined person is your intent. When someone finds within themselves having the tingling eagerness to take up the tasks that they have listed down for a specific goal, this sensation gives them the drive. It tunnels within their mind a natural path, which provides a clear vision to their approach.
You would have some basic experience with what you plan with strong intent. However, if you are one of those people who out of the blues, have a stroke of an idea and wrote it down immediately, you then are also able to start the process at ease. Most people I have come across, brings forward many ideas, but when I ask if they have written it down, the answer is all so common, ” No, I have not. “
Successful people always writes down their spontaneous and progressive ideas. Most of the time, they carry the notepad with them wherever they go. In fact, quite a lot of them scribble an artwork of their notes. The vision of their thought is drawn like a short script, interpretable quickly by them. This image which is a mind-map, reproducing itself on a sheet of paper to help in actualize the idea.
You don’t need to be Picasso or Michelangelo. Anyone can actually draw a doodle. The successful person, makes the doodle relatively easy to interpret for themselves and people who reads it.
In this current digital world, you naturally carry at least one portable device. A smartphone functions well enough like a small computer. You are able to write, take notes, draw doodles and recreate your mind-maps digitally. In fact, you should have the Voice Recorder features in the primary screen of your smartphone. You can always record your thoughts and recall them later too.
Habitually, I do all these actually. If I am driving, the Voice Recorder is activated to take my thoughts at that moment. Other times, I quickly write in ‘NOTES’, under the subdirectory of ‘IDEAS’. I also keep a writing pad beside my bed, so that I can jot down whatever that becomes important for that moment. I still do have a trusty notebook with me where I also write my notes and doodle most of the time. It becomes inspiring for me anytime of the day and I enjoy it very much.
An exciting moment is when you are able to reflect

on yourself for the next things you plan to do.
I was actually having my light brunch today, at a cozy café. Sitting beside the window, my mind began to ponder for a moment on why I am seeing a large portion of the current generation of people, having a lack of determination within them. They seem to want everything as easy as they expect it to be and quickly gets frustrated when it just does not come their way, as they want it.
Coupled with a good cup of cappuccino, which I have approximately once a month, I began to write down the summary draft of what I needed to present in this topic. As I am typing this now, the process of finishing this blog by the end of the day was already initiated. I have told myself, whenever I write my ideas to my notes, it must be completed within three working days. That’s my timeline. Most of the time though, it is already done by the same day. If you have read this far, you would have sighted my determination too.
To get over some setbacks to your determination, do some essentials first.
- Don’t wait for tomorrow, what you can do today.
- Don’t say I can do it later, when you can quickly do it now.
- Review your actions and accomplishments for the day.
- Have a set of guiding rules that you can refer upon. Read it at the start of your day and before you go to sleep.
- Don’t carry a large mental baggage of negative thoughts when you can break them down into simpler ones and quickly throw them away for good.
- Find and realize your skill base. Keep finding and do not be complacent. What we knew yesterday, changes today and will be something else tomorrow. However, when you keep your mind open to continuous learning without arrogance in your current achievements, you will appreciate life. It will be the values to which you can sincerely share with others when they need it.
- Learn to simplify. Do not over-complicate things when in fact, it is just easily resolved. Similarly, your approach to yourself and others around you should be the same. You are not launching a spaceship to Pluto. You are just communicating to yourself from within, so that you can provide the drive that you need to accomplish what you want.
- Visualize your accomplished image at the starting point. It will and should remain firm in you. That is your determination. By the time you reach the end point, you would have made some changes in your original thoughts. Because you are well determined, your progressive actions will always do the check and balance naturally.
- Keep a clear and conscious mind. Remember, meditation and exercise? Do it!
- Do Good and Be Good. You will value this on the long run. Trust me; you will!
