My Chiropractic Journey

Have you had adjustments done to your spine and muscles by a chiropractic doctor before? I have and I still do. After some searching online for chiropractors and reviews about them, I took the first step to do so. I met a very pleasant and experienced doctor, who checked my past medical records, asked detailed questions and got me to visit a radiologist to take the latest x-ray images of my body.

On my second visit, the doctor and I had viewed the x-ray images in detail. He pointed out the current status of my spinal cord, observations of my hip bone alignments and other details that was relevant to his practice. He then advised me on what needed to be done. In my case, suffice to say that past history of injuries, work and lifestyle showed its toll on my body.

We decided that I should be coming for weekly adjustments and see how the progress goes. After my first adjustment, I actually felt my muscular stress relieved. Progressively, after about 8 weeks, I started going once every two weeks for about four sessions and now, I do it once every three weeks consistently.

What was essential for me is that I can clearly communicate with my chiropractic doctor. We discuss the changes felt in my body so that we are equally aware of the resultant from our mutual efforts. He keeps a progress analytic record on his computer too, which makes it easier for him to refer and compare the charts.

So then, what was my effort in this picture? Exercise! I have inherited a human body and I will need to make the best of it with my given time. I do spend around one hour at least a day, for a minimum of four times a week at home, exercising to keep fit. It is a balanced set of exercises including weight training, yoga and cardiovascular. I am glad to say, I have been able to maintain an ideal weight for my body structure and height to which I am comfortable with. I am neither too thin nor with bulky muscles. My body is well toned at the moment and I feel really good from within.

Do not expect miracle cures,
even if you had taken care of yourself.

Why chiropractic then? Just like me, you may be sitting a few hours in front of your computer. The stress we put into our body is high. Exercising with weights can also be challenging. I started light and went on adding weights to a comfortable limit for my constant workouts. Throughout this process, my visits to the chiropractic doctor helped me greatly to correct the offsets done to my body during weight lifting exercises. It can easily be observed by the build-up in muscles and spinal stress.

Its sports science for me. What I need is energy management with good physical stamina, which means I can do more reps when I want to and have consistent muscular energy. I am not a fan of overloading weights and overstressing my body too much with short burst reps. I am not bulking up, but I am toning my body to the frame that I have imaged in my mind.

I gave myself a one-year plan to work out and reach my ideal body frame. In reality, I am already there, but I keep my vision in line without overwhelming excitement, because what is important for me is consistency and self-motivation. Most of all, I am enjoying the process greatly. I manage my food intake, still fast on specific days and duly enjoy my weekly outing when it is possible to try new vegetarian food outlets. I also drink at least two liters of water to keep my body hydrated.

Like I said, you need to enjoy the process with anything you do for yourself. When I set out a specific goal, I check if I have made suitable plans where I am able to enjoy throughout the process. Whether I am reading a book, driving out somewhere, watching tv, writing blogs, having my meals, fasting, meditating or exercising; I need to enjoy what I am doing. I am passionate about it.

From my personal opinion, you should consider visiting a reliable chiropractic doctor with the proper frequency of at least once a month. Find a doctor who takes concern of your well-being instead of being very commercialized. You will know it when you meet any one of them. Our body is our key mobility structure and any failure to it can carry its consequences.

Chiropractic is not a quick fix, but a progressive one.

Most commonly, people suffer from neck and lower back pain, low blood pressure and poor joint mobility. Others have issues like curvature of the spine also known as scoliosis, poor sleep, muscular injuries and more. Primarily, these issues can be addressed in chiropractic treatment.

Let’s look at a scenario. You have severe neck and lower back pain. You most probably suffer from slipped or herniated disc anywhere between L3 to L5 and having difficulty to walk. Maybe you have visited an orthopedic specialist who had recommended some pain relief with anti-inflammatory medications, some ointment to rub and to go for physiotherapy at their medical center. The physiotherapist will possibly give you some daily routine exercises, that you should do to strengthen your core muscles, primarily abdominal and lower back.

The problem with you is that, you only will take effort to go for physiotherapy, take your medications when you are having pain and do not continuously exercise at home to help improve your condition. You expect a quick fix. In the worst case, your slipped disc is giving too much pressure to your spinal cord and a surgery is recommended for you. Your nightmare begins!

Exercising is pertinent to your health and well-being. In most cases, it helps lower your blood cholesterol level, improve muscular strength, having better posture, strengthens your lower back, reduces your risk of having a heart attack, improves your diabetes level and so much more. Do go for your annual health check-up and with a recommendation from your doctor, do a heart scan when needed to see if it is all well and fine. Don’t wait until you are 60 to do so. It all depends on your lifestyle.

For me personally, I am enjoying the science in analyzing the changes I make to my exercises. I do not want my body to remember and be comfortable with a set of routines. I make unpredictable changes to my exercises, by stimulating my mind and body with new challenges every time.

I discuss with my chiropractic doctor about the changes I made and to hear his feedback from his findings during adjustments on my body. Comparatively, it’s like bringing my car to my trusted mechanic for periodical service, with tire alignment and balancing also done. When I drive my car, I feel the comfort and pleasantry as well. I also want to feel the same with my mind and body.

Visualize your healing. Your body will heal with you.
